Does pot size matter for growth in training a portulacaria afra for bonsai? - Little Jade Bonsai
I wanted to make a video to show how pot size can affect the growth on a dwarf jade. The timeframe was 8 months from start to finish. In summary, yes the larger the pot, the more your roots will grow and develop resulting in matched growth up top on the foliage.
So in my opinion, if youre trying to train a bonsai, don't rush to put it into a bonsai pot. Train it in a large container to develop it quicker. Because once you put it into a small bonsai pot, the growth slows down dramatically.

Trust the process and you'll develop your trees quickly. Little Jade Bonsai

It comes down to this... Stay consistent with your trimming. Don't try to make your tree look like a bonsai. Try and make your bonsai look like a tree. Be patient with your results and don't rush it. Remember, the day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit. Trust the process. -Gilbert Little Jade Bonsai

So this video was kind of an accident. I started making a video about pulling up rooted cuttings but then it switched to creating a forest group planting. That's how it goes sometimes. It was definitely a fun day in the garden. The forest contains four 1 year old cuttings and tree that I started growing from a cutting 10 years ago. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to subscribe! -Gilbert

Maintenance trimming a raft style portulacaria afra bonsai. A Raft style is characterized by a single trunk that is growing along the ground, with three or more trunks rising from it. In a raft style, the trunk along the ground illustrates a tree in nature that has been blown over by the wind, taken root and had its branches on the upward side continue growth as new trunks.

Bonsai Life Stories - Mame Portulacaria afra - Progression & Unexpected Ending - Little Jade Bonsai

Bonsai Life Stories by Little Jade Bonsai. This is a mame size tree I had been training for 6 years until I was thrown an unexpected curve ball. This is the tree that inspired my logo. I made a critical mistake by waiting too long before repotting. A family of rove beetles began to eat the roots and it developed root rot. The reason I noticed it was because all my other trees were plump after h...

Bonsai Life Stories by Little Jade Bonsai. This is an upright straight trunk tree I've been training for 5 years. It's one of those trees that you're kind of not sure what to do with. Naturally, some people would try and bend the trunk to give it some movement but personally with this tree, I thought why not just let the tree tell me how it wants to grow. So basically I just trimmed back new gr...

    Super nice collection of trees sir, the kind that would inspire anyone to build their own. One big question I have is how do you keep squirells and chipmunks from eating your plants? I'm in michigan, and they seem to love succulents here. Is there a trick you us to keep them at bay?

    Great video, I'm curious about the root development. What exactly is happening that produces more growth? Is it the extra soil that is holding more water?

  • @anwarallie
    @anwarallie 3 місяці тому

    New subscriber. Here in South Africa we call this a “spekboom” literally bacon tree as the leaves are edible. It’s very prolific and where I live I’ve got so many of them that they’ve formed a hedge. Only recently did I think a small piece of it looked like a bonsai tree, hence finding your channel. Vey informative and helpful. Love your work.
